I first saw this idea online, on Pinterest specifically, and I immediately wanted to own one. However, when I checked how much this chair costs in an online store, I was shocked by how expensive it was and thought it looked doable, so why not try building one at home instead, since I have most of the materials that I will need?

The only thing that’s missing is a tutorial that I can follow and would act as my guide throughout this project. So, I tried looking at different video-sharing platforms until I was led to this video tutorial by Goodful on YouTube. This was such a fun project and experience, the only thing I changed in my version of this chair is the size of the chair itself because I wanted it to be bigger, other than that, this turned out to be perfect!

Step 1

First, cut the pieces of wood that you would need, then start assembling the back and sides of the chair, and attach them with wood glue and nails or screws. Attach the shelves around the sides and back of the chair and install the seat as well, then use the wooden dowels as spacers, and hold them down with a clamp as the glue dries.

Step 2

While waiting for them to dry, prepare the pool noodles and cut them down to the length of the chair’s seat, then cut the fabric pieces that you will need, and staple the end of the fabric to the edge of the chair’s side neatly. Place the first piece of pool noodle half, then wrap it over with the fabric tightly, and staple the ends securely.

Step 3

Keep adding pool noodle halves until you’ve filled the back and sides of the chair all over with it, then tuck the extra top and bottom fabrics tightly, and proceed to prepare the cushion. Place the cushion on the seat, then fill the shelves with books, and you’re done!
