41. Sweater Ornaments

Two embroidery hoop ornaments filled with cream ribbed and chevron sweater knit, topped with faux pine sprigs and red berries

Sweater ornaments are the fastest way to give an old sweater, or a hat with a hole in it, a second life. Line the inner ring of a 3 inch embroidery hoop with double sided tape, lay a scrap of knit over it and press the outer ring down. Tighten the screw and trim the extra. A sprig of faux greenery and berries hot glued at the top, plus twine for hanging, and it’s done in a few minutes. Cable and chevron knits show off best.

42. Pipe Cleaner Snowflake

A pipe cleaner snowflake takes about 20 minutes and leaves zero glitter mess, since glitter pipe cleaners don’t shed. Wrap three pipe cleaners tightly around a bamboo skewer to make springy spirals, slide them off and cross them in the center, then twist to lock them together. Cut a fourth pipe cleaner into short pieces and twist one onto each tip for that three pronged look. Glue dots hold the white pom poms so kids can finish it themselves. Hang it with fishing line.

43. Dinosaur Corn Holders

Green and dark brown toy dinosaurs cut in half and holding corn on the cob as a body on a white plate over a woven placemat

Dinosaur corn holders make corn on the cob the favorite part of dinner. Cut a plastic dinosaur in half, fill the cut end with hot glue, push a corn holder into each half and add a little super glue for extra hold. Once it sets, the corn sits between the head and the tail like a very long, very yellow dinosaur. The supplies come from the dollar store, so a full set costs a few dollars. Hand wash them, since the plastic toys aren’t made for the dishwasher.
