26. No-Sew Felt Fruit Coasters

Four no-sew felt coasters shaped as an apple slice, watermelon, lemon and pink grapefruit standing in a row

No-sew felt fruit coasters come together in under an hour with felt, scissors and hot glue. For the lemon, glue a white circle onto a larger yellow circle and add five yellow triangles for segments. The watermelon is green, then white, then a smaller pink circle with black felt teardrop seeds. The apple uses a simple template, red and white layers, a leaf and a stem. Stiff craft felt keeps them from flopping, and tailor’s chalk keeps the cut lines clean.

27. Woven Yarn Mug Cozy

Woven yarn cozies in deep red and soft pink with heart buttons wrapped around two sage green reusable coffee cups

A woven yarn mug cozy gives the look of crochet without the crochet. Cut a piece of cardboard to the cup’s circumference and the cozy’s width, notch the ends about 1 cm apart and wrap yarn through the notches to make the warp. Twist a second yarn on itself for chunky texture, thread it through a slit in a popsicle stick and weave over and under until the cardboard is covered. Slip it off, chain stitch the ends and sew on a heart button as the closure.

28. Sharpie Heart Mug

Two white mugs with pink and red dotted hearts, one an outline and one filled in, beside Sharpies on red paper

A Sharpie heart mug is a dotted design that can be finished in a single sitting. Cut a paper heart and coat the back with a two way glue pen, then wait for the glue to turn from blue to white so it becomes repositionable. Stick it on a plain white mug and dot around it in red and pink until the outline is full. Peel off the paper to reveal the heart. For a design that survives the dishwasher, use oil based paint markers, wait 24 hours and bake from a cold oven.

29. Daisy Bead Rings

Three seed bead daisy rings in white with yellow, lavender with green and red with white on a purple mat

Daisy bead rings are tiny chains of seed bead flowers on jewelry wire, and once the pattern clicks, each one takes minutes. Fold the wire, thread two white beads on each tail and a yellow bead on one, then cross both tails through a single bead to lock the yellow center. Pass back through the white beads to form the petals, add one more white bead per side and a green bead as a leaf. Repeat until it fits the finger and join the ends. Use fishing line for kids.

30. Paper Tube Pen Holder

Square pen holder stacked log cabin style from pastel paper tubes holding pens and teal scissors beside a plant

A paper tube pen holder looks like a stack of candy colored straws, but every tube is rolled from colored paper. Roll a sheet diagonally around a thin skewer, keep it tight and glue the flap. Trim the sharp tip and make a pile in several colors. Cut a four inch cardboard square for the base, then glue tubes in pairs on opposite sides, log cabin style, alternating colors as the layers stack up. Trim the ends evenly. It’s surprisingly sturdy and holds pens, scissors or makeup brushes.
