Who We Are
DIY JOY was built by crafters, for crafters. We’re a real team of makers, writers, and photographers. Much of our work we design, craft, prepare, and photograph ourselves. Other projects are ones we discover from talented creators across the web, test, and share with our community along with full credit and links back to the original makers. Our job is to help you make something with your own two hands and assure you will have success following our step-by-step tutorials. We also love pointing you to the best craft ideas out there, and only include projects from the top DIY blogs and best recipe sites, ones we’ve thoroughly reviewed or even made ourselves. This page explains how we put our content together, where our ideas come from, how we handle mistakes, and how our content may (and may not) be used elsewhere. How We Create & Curate Our Content
- Original projects. Much of what we publish is designed, created, and photographed by our own team. This original work belongs to DIY JOY (see Terms of Use). You’ll know a post is ours because every image in it is captioned “Image credit: DIY JOY.”
- Curated projects, always credited. We also feature standout projects from other makers across the web. The article and write-up are our own original words, but the underlying project idea belongs to that maker. We credit them by name and link directly back to their original project page or YouTube channel so you can visit the source, and so they get the traffic and recognition they’ve earned. We never present another creator’s project as our own. If we happen to include a project of yours and you’d like it removed from diyjoy.com, please contact me at stephanie (at) diyjoy (dot) com, and I’ll take care of it.
- Where our photos come from. The images in our posts are either photos we shot ourselves or photos used from craft and food blogs that allow their images to be shared, always with credit and a link back to the source. We don’t take photos from creators who don’t permit it. If we have included a photo of yours and you’d like it removed from diyjoy.com, please contact me at stephanie (at) diyjoy (dot) com, and I’ll take care of it.
- We test what we feature. Whether a project is ours or curated, we aim to try it ourselves so we can speak honestly about how it went, flag the tricky steps, and provide a list of the supplies you need while also encouraging you to visit the original creator for the complete tutorial.
- Roundups of great ideas. We publish roundups and collections of popular craft ideas, featuring only high-quality creators’ work. Every project in a roundup is credited to its maker and linked back to the original project page or YouTube channel.
- Sources are named. Whenever we reference a technique, product, tutorial, or another creator’s project, we link to it directly so readers can see exactly where an idea came from.
Corrections & Updates
Craft projects evolve: a supply gets discontinued, a step needs clarifying, or a reader finds a smarter way to do something. When we update a published post in a meaningful way (a materials swap, a corrected measurement or ingredient), we note the update on the post. Editorial Independence
Our craft ideas, sewing projects, recipes, and tips are all chosen by our editorial team based on what we think is genuinely useful, fun, or beautiful to make, not by advertisers or sponsors. Any paid partnership, sponsored project, or brand collaboration is clearly labeled as such, and it’s held to the same standard of honesty as everything else we publish: we only feature products and materials we’d actually use.
Advertising, Affiliate Links & Brand Sponsorship
DIY JOY is free to read, and it’s supported by display advertising and affiliate links. That means some links in our posts (to tools, materials, or supplies) may earn us a small commission if you make a purchase, at no extra cost to you. This never influences which projects we choose to publish or how we describe a product’s performance. Our recommendations reflect what we’ve actually used and would recommend to a friend. Please note that we do not offer product-sponsored articles for backlinks. We never have and never will.
Product Mentions & Recommendations
When we recommend a specific tool, material, or product in a tutorial, it’s because someone on our team has used it for that project. After many years of crafting, we do have lots of favorite tools and supplies which we will always share with you, honestly. We don’t accept payment in exchange for a positive mention, and if a product didn’t work well for us, we say so or leave it out. If we happen to partner with a brand to sponsor a product we believe in, that will be noted. You can trust that all product recommendations on our site are for products we truly believe in.
Our Use of AI
Real people write and create DIY JOY’s articles and posts. Real people shoot the photos and videos. We may use AI-assisted tools for research, prototyping, drafting support, or light editing of photos and text, but every article is written, edited, and reviewed by our team before it’s published. Other than the occasional edited image background or prototype variation, we don’t publish AI-generated content, and we don’t use AI to review projects we have not done.
Fairness & Respect
We aim to give credit generously and describe other creators’ work fairly and accurately. We want to keep our community a welcoming, encouraging place for crafters of every skill level. We only want to share content from creators who want their work shared. We don’t tolerate content in our comments or community spaces that’s discriminatory, harassing, or unsafe, and we moderate accordingly on our site and socials.
Content Ownership & Usage
The article text on DIY JOY, along with the original photos, videos, and graphics we create ourselves, is the copyrighted work of DIY JOY and our credited contributors. Our own original video and photo content is owned solely by us and may not be copied, reposted, edited for reuse, or published on any platform without permission. Where a project’s photos are credited to another maker, those images belong to that creator, and permission to reuse them must come from them.
