Ingredients:

For the custard mixture:

  • 4 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 can of evaporated milk
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 250 ml of whipping cream (chilled overnight)
  • 6 pcs. store-bought plain sponge cake

For the  chocolate ganache:

  • 250 ml whipping cream
  • 200g dark or milk chocolate compound

Directions:

Step 1

In a small saucepan, add 4 egg yolks, 3/4 cup sugar, and 1 can of evaporated milk. Mix well, then add 1/2 tsp salt, 2 tsp vanilla extract, and 1/4 cup all-purpose flour. Continue mixing until the flour dissolves completely. Put the saucepan on the stovetop over low to medium heat and stir constantly until the consistency thickens. After it thickens, turn off the heat and add 1/2 cup unsalted butter. Mix until smooth, then transfer it to a bowl and cover it with plastic wrap. Chill in the fridge. Next, turn the store-bought sponge cake into crumbs and put it in a bowl. Set aside.

Step 2

In another bowl, add 250 ml whipped cream, and beat it on high speed until soft peaks form. Add the chilled custard mixture at a time and continue beating. Put a layer of it in your container, spread it evenly, then add a layer of crumbled cake on top. Repeat this by alternating the two ingredients until you fill your container. After this, chill it in the fridge to set. Next, for the chocolate ganache, add 250 ml of whipping cream into a small saucepan and heat it for three minutes while stirring constantly. Add it directly to the 200g chopped dark chocolate and let it sit for five minutes. Mix well until smooth. Pour two to three tbsp of chocolate ganache over the cake and chill it for at least an hour to let it set.
