11. DIY Stick Figure Costume
allfortheboys
Black tape and clothes you already own. That is the entire supply list for the DIY stick figure costume from All for the Boys, where you run lines of tape down the arms, legs and body of plain clothes until a walking cartoon shows up. No sewing, no pattern, and it goes together in minutes, which is the only reason I would ever call a costume foolproof.
12. Butterfly & Butterfly Catcher Costume
DIY JoyOne of you wears the wings, the other carries the net. It’s an adorable last-minute couples costume made from simple craft supplies.
13. Baby Ghost Costume
5littlemonsters
A baby costume has to survive a nap, a bottle and a car seat, which rules out most of them. Erica at 5 Little Monsters builds this ghost from a plain white long sleeve bodysuit and white pants, with two eyes and a mouth cut from iron-on vinyl and pressed on with an iron. No sewing anywhere in it. If you don’t have iron-on vinyl, fabric paint or puffy paint does the same job. The little crocheted pointy hat, sized for a three month old, is what turns a white outfit into an actual ghost. Small thing, whole costume.
14. Inspector Gadget & Penny Costume
persialou
The hula hoop is the hardest working supply here. Alexis at Persia Lou cuts one into pieces and wires them to a headband for the Go Go Gadget arms, with the cardboard tube off a wire coat hanger running to a glove stuffed with fiberfill, a second hanger bent into fingers and a black bead on a wire for the hand phone. Penny’s the easy half: a red tee with a white strip sewn across it, a blonde wig in pigtails and a watch face sculpted from air dry clay over a cheap watch. Glue that one on with something serious. When all else fails around here, it’s Gorilla Glue.
15. Spice Rack Costume
funcage
Being a spice rack should not work as a costume, and yet. Funcage builds a cardboard frame, lines it with labeled spice jars and sends you out the door wearing the whole thing, with barely enough sewing to mention. It is a joke about not having a costume that is somehow better than most actual costumes, and you can walk around the party in it all night.
