Step 1:

Pick two printed 2 1/2″ strips and one 2 1/2″ background strip. Place the background strip in between the printed strips and sew them together. Press the seam allowances toward the darker prints. Make a total of 8 strip units. Cut each unit to 16 pieces of 2 1/2″ units for a total of 128.

Take two pieces of 2 1/2″ background strips and place 1 piece of 2 1/2″ printed strip in the middle. Press the seam allowances toward the darker print. Make 4 strip units measuring 6 1/2″ tall. Cut each strip unit to make 16 pieces of 2 1/2″ units for a total of 64.

Step 3:

Take 2 pieces of the first unit and 1 of the second unit, then sew them together to make a block measuring 6 1/2″ square. Repeat the process to make a total of 60 blocks.
