This quilt project idea by Lori Holt on YouTube is the perfect quilt to practice your skills on and it’s beginner-friendly, too! It’s super easy to make and you can also use your stash of leftover fabrics for this project. If you want to learn how, then don’t hesitate, and read the instructions down below now. While you’re at it, watch the video tutorial as well for more details.
Step 1
Cut the fabric pieces and make 8 squares from your background fabric at 5½ inches, then cut 1 center fabric into 5½ inches square, and 8 squares for the star points at 4½ inches. Place the center fabric down on your work surface, then lay 4 background fabrics on each corner, take 1 background fabric from any corner, and lay 1 smaller and colored square on top with their right sides facing together. Make sure that the smaller square is lined up nicely in the corner of the background square, then sew them together diagonally on the smaller square from corner to corner, and trim off the excess fabric with a ¼ inch seam allowance.

Step 2
Press the fabric open, then place another smaller square on the other side, sew, trim, and press. Do the same process to the rest of the background squares on each corner, then sew the rest of the larger squares on each side of the pieced block, and make sure to press every now and then. You are now done with your block, proceed to make more blocks, and finish your quilt as desired.
