I have a lot of old jeans that still fit me that I no longer wear. I have multiple issues with them, including the outdated style, faded color, or simply just for one-time use. But I recently changed my ways and have been into sustainability, which is why I want to re-purpose my old jeans. While browsing Youtube, I found this genius way how to turn your jeans into a denim skirt from BeingCee. I immediately tried it, and now I’ve been wearing a lot of my flipped jeans! It’s very easy and perfect if you don’t have any sewing experience like me. You don’t even need a sewing machine for this, and you can do it in just less than an hour! Watch the video tutorial below to learn the step-by-step instructions.

Materials:

  • old jeans
  • pair of scissors
  • fabric marker (or chalk)
  • needle and thread
  • seam reaper
  • pins (optional)

Directions:

Step 1

Fold the jeans in half and draw a straight line using a fabric marker where you want to cut it. (Measure the jeans early to figure out how short you want it to be.) After this, cut it off. Next, cut along the seams to the crotch area with your scissors. (You can also use your seam reaper to unravel some of the fabric.) After this, clean off the area by cutting the worn-out seam.

Step 2

Now, turn the skirt inside out with the zipper part on the side, then lay it down nicely. Once everything is aligned, draw a straight line on both sides. After this, manually stitch directly on both lines using the backstitch method. After you finish sewing, turn the skirt inside out, and you are finished.
