How to Sew a Christmas Face Mask (With Free Pattern)

This Christmas-themed face mask is perfect to make and be festive for the holidays. Plus, you can make one for your whole family and have matching face masks for photos. Although that might be cheesy, I think it’s cute for a family picture to remember how unusual 2020 has been. Just make a regular face mask and add a Christmas tree design. Plus, the free DIY contoured face mask pattern has three different sizes that you can make to fit. This DIY face mask is different than many I’ve come across because there’s a casing where you can change the elastic length. So, if you don’t like elastic, you can use a ribbon to tie as well.
Supplies:
- 36 x 24 cm red quilting weight woven cotton fabric for the outside
- 34 x 24 cm green quilting woven weaved cotton fabric for the inside
- Fabric shears
- scissors
- pen and pencil
- Heat n Bond Lite
- Pins
- Red, green and yellow thread
- Hand sewing needle
- 2 mm colored seed beads
- FREE DIY contoured face mask pattern and Christmas face mask template
- 60 x 19 cm (or smaller, depending on size) non-woven fabric for a 2-layer filter. I suggest using 60-70 g/m² weight melt-blown nonwoven cloth*.
- pinking shears (suggested)
- ruler and/or sewing gauge
- 3-4 mm elastic (46 cm for size S, 50 cm for size M, 54 cm for size L)
- small safety pin
- florist wire or bread twist tie (for optional wire nose bridge)
- needle nose pliers (for optional wire nose bridge)
Directions:
First, prepare the pieces by printing out the patterns. Then, put a small piece of Heat n’ Bond Lite over the tree of the size that’s corresponding to the face mask. Next, once the tree is stitched onto the mask, use a hand sewing needle to decorate the tree by adding the seed beads.
Overall, I love this Christmas face mask, and the free pattern comes in handy. Plus, you can make regular face masks with the pattern for a contoured face mask that has all of the bells and whistles.
