Ever looked at an old pair of jeans and thought, “These could use a little personality”? That’s exactly what happened to me—and before I knew it, I was threading a needle and falling into the wonderfully satisfying world of denim embroidery.
There’s just something about stitching cute little details onto your clothes that feels like self-care, creativity, and style all rolled into one. So if you haven’t tried embroidering jeans—or any clothes, then what’s stopping you?

In this video tutorial, I’ll show you how I embroidered a design on the leg of my jeans, and trust me—it’s way easier than it looks. No fancy equipment and definitely no sewing perfection required.

What You’ll Need for Floral Embroidery

How to Make Floral Embroidery
Step 1: Making the pattern
First off, I chose the pattern that I want to work on, and picked one that I could work on easily. You can find many online, which can be printed easily, but if you want something more customized and tailored to what you can do, then you can draw your own pattern, which is what I did here.Step 2: Embroidering the stems
For the stems, I usually just do a stem stitch technique. To do this, start by bringing the needle up to the starting point, then insert it down, but not all the way. Next, insert the needle up in the middle of the 2 stitching points and pull. Repeat, keeping the thread in the same direction for twists to form.Step 3: Embroidering the leaves
For the leaves, I just follow the lines and make double stitches to make them easier to see and look thicker. When you do a double stitch, make sure to always push the needle down the same base.Step 4: Embroidering a half daisy
The technique I used here is a classic lazy daisy stitch, but the only difference is that it’s not a full flower. To do this stitch, bring the needle up at the petal base, then insert near the starting point, and leave a loop. Bring the needle up at the petal’s tip and insert it over, then pull gently to form a teardrop loop.Step 5: Making French knots
This is perhaps the trickiest technique to master, but the quickest and easiest to make once you get the hang of it. Simply wrap the thread around the needle 2-3 times, then insert the needle down, near the starting point, and gently pull the thread to form a knot. The key is to keep the right tension on the needle and thread.Step 6: Embroidering the roses
This is one of the easiest stitches to make and is also a favorite of mine. Start by making 5 straight stitches to form a star, then bring the needle up near the center. Weave under one thread, then over to the next, and under again. Repeat until you’ve covered the entire area.Step 7: Straight stitches for the flower petals
For the other flower petals that only require a few or thinner threads, making simple single stitches will be enough. Just make sure to bring the thread down the same starting point or base every time to make a neat finish.
