This quilt project by Jordan Fabrics on YouTube is the easiest and simplest way to make a beautiful table runner, it doesn’t need a lot of cutting because all it requires is an iron and a few folding. What’s even better is that it won’t leave any fabric scraps or leftovers because you can use the entire 5-inch square fabric for this quilt.

Materials:

  • Charm squares or 5-inch squares
  • Backing fabric
  • Batting fabric
  • Needle and thread
  • Iron, for pressing
  • Sewing machine

Directions:

Step 1

Iron the fabrics that you’re using first, then pick 33 squares, and lay them out into 3 rows of 11 squares. Stack them together per row, then pin them, and add labels so you don’t confuse them with each other. Start with 2 squares with their right sides together, sew them with ¼ inch seam allowance, then open it up, and add another square on top sewing them together.

Step 2

Keep on adding a square until you’ve completed the whole row, then proceed to stitch the next rows, and once done press them nice and flat with the seam going toward the same direction, make sure to alternate the direction of the seam per row. Sew the rows to each other, then set them aside, and start working on the prairie points.

Step 3

Simply fold the square in half diagonally with the wrong sides facing, then fold it one more time to make a smaller triangle, and make sure to press it flat every fold. Continue to fold the rest of the squares, then place them on top of the runner top’s side with their edges matching, and overlap the points every 3 inches as shown in the video.

Step 4

Pin them together in place, then sew them down the edges, and straighten them as you go. Do the same thing on the opposite side of the runner, then start working on the short edges as well, and press them open. Add the backing and batting, then topstitch or quilt the runner however you want, and you’re done!
