Easy Owl Pincushion Sewing Tutorial

If you love sewing and you adore owls, then this is the perfect craft for you! Learn how to sew this super cute owl pincushion using only some scrap fabrics with only a few easy and simple steps. Simply follow the instructions as shown in this brilliant video tutorial by Gwinnett County Public Library on YouTube.
Materials:
- Main fabric
- Accent fabric
- Cotton stuffing
- Rice, optional
- Cardboard
- Spool of thread
- Buttons
- Glue gun and glue sticks
- Scissors
- Embroidery floss
- Needle
- Sewing machine
- Marking pen

Directions:
Step 1
Download your pattern first here, then cut each one out. Starting with the main body piece, fold the main fabric in half, and then line up one side of the pattern right on top of the fold. Cut out the next smaller pattern on your accent fabric, no need to fold it in half, this will be the belly of the owl. Place the belly fabric on top of the main fabric with their right sides together, and their pointed edges matching, then clip in place. Sew straight with a ¼ seam allowance. Spread it open, then fold it in half with their right sides together, and edges matching. Pin in place and sew straight, then turn it right side out.

Step 2
Fold the pointed edge halfway down the body, then pin it in place. Grab an embroidery floss and divide it into 3 strands, then hand stitch the beak. Insert the cotton filling leaving a few spaces at the bottom for the rice to add some weight. Sew the bottom before adding in the rice so it doesn’t fall off but do not pull it close just yet. Lightly pull it leaving only a small opening, then add the rice a little at a time. Pull the cinch to close the opening, tie the two tails of the thread together in a double knot. Grab a spool of thread, then trace its outline on the cardboard. Cut out a scrap fabric about 3 or 4 times bigger than the cardboard’s size, then fold it inwards and secure with hot glue. Then attach it underneath the pincushion to hide the stitching. Hot glue the buttons for the eyes.
