This beautiful quilt block idea by Create with Claudia on YouTube is lots of fun to make and surely is a challenge at the same time. If you want to try a different approach to quilting, then this video tutorial is definitely perfect for you. The star in this block is 3D and looks very pretty in person. It is also surprisingly easy to put together although it was quite confusing at first. Nevertheless, it was still a fun quilt to make, and I am looking forward to making this kind of quilt again in the future.

  • (1) 4½” square
  • (2) 2⅞” squares, cut in half diagonally

Other Supplies You’ll Need

  • Backing fabric
  • Binding fabric
  • Batting fabric

Directions:

Step 1

After cutting the fabrics requires on this quilt block, lay them out as shown in the video, then sew the triangles together to make half-square triangles, and pair the triangles up (2 pairs of gray and background fabric, 2 pairs of focus and background fabric, 1 pair of focus and black fabric, 1 pair of focus and gray fabric, 1 pair of black and gray fabric, and 2 pairs of black and background fabric). Grab one pair, then lay them on top of each other with their right sides facing and their triangles lining up, and sew them along the side with a ¼” seam allowance.

Step 2

Press the seams toward the darker fabric, then trim them off if needed to make them 2½” square, and repeat with the rest of the pairs. After sewing the half-square triangles together, lay them together as shown in the video, then split them into two sections, and start piecing them together one at a time. Once the 2 sections are nicely sewn, sew them together in the middle, then press the whole block, and finish it with a backing, binding, and batting. Quilt the block however you want or use them to make a larger quilted piece.
