I’ve always wanted to own a pouf chair but I think that they’re too expensive, so I thought, why not try to make one on my own instead? That’s when I stumbled upon this adorable project by Christine Nore #Teamforever20 on YouTube! In this video tutorial, you will learn how to make a modern and high-end-looking pouf chair using an old tire, plus, you only need a few wood pieces to complete this project. What’s even better is that nobody will notice that this chair is handmade unless you tell them.

Materials:

  • Plywood
  • Lumber
  • Miter saw
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Carton
  • Old tire
  • Scissors
  • Cutter
  • Ropes
  • Fabric
  • Foam
  • Glue
  • Nails and screws
  • Drill
  • Staple gun

Directions:

Step 1

Cut the wood pieces to about 7 inches or the same length as the height of the tire’s rim, then insert it around the inside of the rim to serve as the brace, and secure the wood brace in place using screws. Cut a piece of wood the same diameter as the tire, then make one each for the top and underneath the tire, and cut the wood ring about 30 inches, this will be the back of the seat.

Step 2

Attach the back of the seat to the round wood at the top of the tire, then attach the braces to prop the ring up and slanted as shown in the video, and attach the whole piece to the tire securely. Attach the curved wood pieces around the rim of the back of the seat, then attach the other round wood underneath the tire, and cover the inside and exterior of the back of the seat with carton pieces.

Step 3

Attach one end of the rope at the inner edges of the seat making sure that their length can wrap around the whole back of the seat later, then glue the foam to the inside and exterior of the back of the seat. Pull the rope and wrap it over the back of the seat all around the bottom, then sew the cover of the seat, and wear it onto the seat. Secure the fabric with screws or staple it with nails, then insert the cushion at the center of the seat, and you’re done!
