This DIY stove is also very affordable because you only need some lint and a coffee filter to easily light it up. You can use this rocket stove to cook quick meals and you can keep the fire going for as long as you like or as much as your pile of twigs allows. This stove is also great if you want to boil some water, just make sure that whatever you’re heating up or cooking, that your pot or pan has a lid if you don’t want your food filled with ash.

Materials for DIY Cinder Block Rocket Stove:

  • Cinder blocks
  • Hammer
  • Gas stove grate, or similar, whatever works
  • Lint
  • Coffee filter
  • Small twigs, the smaller the better
  • Match or lighter

How to Make a DIY Cinder Block Rocket Stove:

Step 1

Lay a cinder block on its flat side on a flat surface, then place another block on the side making it stand on its short side, and then hammer down the end of another block as shown in the video. Arrange the cinder block with its open side facing the block standing on the side, then place the final block on top matching the holes nicely, and make sure it’s stable.

Step 2

Put a grate over the hole or use any similar rack just to raise the pot or pan up a little and allow air to permeate. Break up some small twigs and push them inside the stove through the hole at the side, then place some lint on a coffee filter, and push it in as well. Now, you can keep feeding the stove with small twigs on the hole at the top, then light it up, and keep adding twigs until it has caught a fire big enough to cook.
