Materials Needed for Desert Cactus Quilt Block:

  • Assorted green print fabric, for the cactus
  • Assorted brown print fabric, for the pot
  • Pink print fabric, for the pot
  • Peach print fabric, for the flower
  • Low-volume print fabric, for the background
  • Marking pen, pencil, or chalk
  • Ruler
  • Needle and thread
  • Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
  • Iron, for pressing
  • Sewing machine

How to Make a Desert Cactus Quilt Block:

Step 1

Download and print the pattern, then cut the fabrics as instructed, and assemble them in a block referring to the pattern guide for the proper layout. First, stitch together the green strips or cactus fabrics one at a time, then press the seams nicely in one direction, and trim it to size.

Step 2

Next, join the brown and pink strips or the pot unit together, give them a good press, then put the small background squares on the corners, and stitch them diagonally before trimming off the excess layers.

Step 3

Stitch the small background squares on the corners of the cactus block unit and do the same for the flower of the cactus to give it a diamond shape. Now, stitch everything together as well as the background strips around the sides to complete the block, then press them nicely, and you’re done!
