There’s just something special about homemade food, they taste ten times better than store-bought.

You can yield a couple of bags or jars of marinara sauce with this recipe, and you can use it for a long time, depending on how frequently you use it. Either way, it’s a great idea to make your sauce at home because you can use it for up to 3 months and it will save you a lot of money. Ingredients for Homemade Marinara Sauce:

  • (28 ounces) cans of crushed tomatoes
  • 2 (14.5 ounces) cans of diced tomatoes
  • 1 large white onion, diced
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp of dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp of dried basil
  • 2 tsp of sea salt or table salt
  • ½ tsp of pepper
  • 2 tsp of sugar
  • ½ tsp onion powder

How to Make Homemade Marinara Sauce:

Step 1

In the crockpot, add the crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, diced white onion, minced garlic, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, pepper, sugar, and onion powder. Give them a good stir to combine everything, then cover the crockpot with the lid, and let the sauce cook on a low setting for about 8 hours or on a high setting for about 4 hours.

Step 2

Make sure not to open the lid for the whole duration of the cooking time, then once the sauce is done cooking, remove the lid, and let the sauce cool for about 1 hour. Transfer the sauce to freezer storage bags, Ziploc bags, or mason jars, then make sure to leave enough headspace, and put the sauce in the freezer for up to 3 months. Use the sauce whenever you want but make sure to thaw it first.
