I love picking up bright-colored fleece fabrics from my local store and turning them into a snuggly throw-size blanket, ready for gifting or for my family. It’s such a fun and easy sewing activity, especially during the holidays. Watch the video tutorial below and learn how to make this easy throw blanket.

Materials:

  • 2 yards of fleece fabric
  • 1 – size 8 cotton thread
  • 1 – bohin felt needles
  • scissors
  • rotary cutter
  • ruler
  • pen

Directions:

Step 1

Start by removing the selvedge edges of your fleece fabric. Next, grab a round-shaped object and use this to round all four corners of the fabric. After this, mark 1/2″ from the edge with your pen and ruler. Set it aside. Now, thread two to three feet of perle cotton on your needle, then make a knot at the end. After this, begin stitching at the point where you marked 1/2″. Stitch over the fabric to the back and through the same hole to start, then bring the thread to the very edge of the blanket. Next, move down about 1/2″ and make another stitch. Continue all around the edges of the fabric.

Step 2

When you run out of thread, finish it by making a new knot in the back. Start a new thread where you left off, bringing the thread to the very edge of the fabric, and just continue sewing. When done, stitch through the first stitch and make a knot.
