Portable ironing boards are so convenient because I hate taking out a big board if I need to iron something small. Plus, I think it takes up a lot of space when I need to store it away. Lori Holt’s tutorial on YouTube has iron boards with all different sizes. You can put legs on the bottom of these boards to prop it up a little. I think it’s so smart to add the wooden legs to the boards because they add a nice touch. I would love to create these ironing boards because I would be creative and pick out some cute fabric designs. Also, this is budget-friendly.

Materials:

  • plywood
  • fabric
  • silver ironing board fabric
  • batting fabric
  • 3/8 staples for 1/2 inch plywood
  • wood legs (optional)

Directions:

First, get your plywood and make sure to take the corners off because it’ll be easier when you fold the edges. Plus, you won’t have to worry about them being pointy and poking through the fabric. Lay your fabric, silver ironing board fabric and batting with the right side down. Cut about 2-3 inches all around.

Next, fold up the corners and fold them down while stapling the fabric down on each side. Staple the two sides first before the corners.

This portable ironing board is so easy to make and doesn’t require any expensive tools or steps. You can make them at any size you want to fit your sewing space. I think this would be neat for my mom because she has a big ironing board in one room. Plus, another one by her big desk, so I think it would be useful if she had one that can go on top of her table she’s working on small projects.
