Making something from scratch feels more special than buying ready-made decorations. Plus, it’s a great way to spend time away from your phone and enjoy quality time with your family.

DIY 4th of July Banner with Toilet Paper Rolls Tutorial
Learn how to make a banner using empty toilet paper rolls with this easy guide!
Soaking
Soak the empty toilet paper rolls in water for a few minutes until the pieces separate. You will need 8 TP rolls for this project.

Folding
Separate the pieces and fold each one in half, as shown below. Let them dry.

Painting
Once dry, paint 7 pieces red and 7 pieces blue. Let them dry completely.

Adding letters
Trace the letters onto the pennants using a pencil, alternating colorsfor each letter, then color them with an acrylic marker.

Making the flag
Take a dried, unpainted pennant and cut it in half. Glue the pieces together to form a rectangle, then paint it white.

Drawing the flag
Use acrylic markers to draw the flag.

Hanging the banner
String your finished letter banners onto a ribbon and display!

Crafting Tip
If the cardboard curls, simply place a piece of plastic on top when it’s almost dry, then use a book as a weight to keep it flat.
Creative Ideas and Variations
- Add your own design. Feel free to decorate the banner however you like. You can add a dashed border, use a d different font, or change the colors to match your theme.
- Add embellishments. Glue on lace, beads, glitters, and sequins to give your banner a little extra flair.
