Cool Retro Quilt Tutorial for Beginners

I love making super easy quilts, especially those with very simple steps, just like this cool retro quilt by Sew Yeah on YouTube. It’s easy enough to make that even beginners can perfect it on the first try, and it doesn’t require a lot of complicated cutting or stitching, which I love about it.

It’s made up of fabric strips and it’s jelly roll-friendly, but if you have some leftovers from previous projects, you can use them as well. Materials for Cool Retro Quilt:
- 1 jelly roll
- 2¾ yards of background fabric
- ½ yard of binding
- 3 yards of backing
- Marking pen, pencil, or chalk
- Ruler
- Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
- Fabric pins
- Needle and thread
- Iron, for pressing
- Sewing machine

How to Make a Cool Retro Quilt:
Step 1
Download and print the pattern here, cut the jelly roll strips as instructed, and cut the background fabric. Place the background strip right in the middle, then place an 8½-inch print strip on either side and lay the 6½-inch strips at the top and bottom. Start stitching them together one at a time, then press the seams as you go, and make more of this block unit with the rest of the fabric strips.
Step 2
Get two block units, stack them together with their right sides facing and edges matching, and sew another block unit on the side vertically, as demonstrated in the video. Keep piecing the block units together the same way, then arrange all of the blocks together, and finish your quilt however you want.
