The moment I saw this quilt project by Carol Thelen on YouTube, I immediately knew that I had to give it a try. It’s a wonderful quilt block that showcases an intricate pattern and uses a combination of 3 fabric colors, which you can switch with any color that you want.

Materials for Slip Knot Quilt Block:
- Blue fabric, print
- Black fabric, solid or print
- Background fabric, solid or low-volume print
- Marking pen, pencil, or chalk
- Ruler
- Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
- Needle and thread
- Iron, for pressing
- Sewing machine

How to Make a Slip Knot Quilt Block:
Step 1
Download and print the pattern, cut the fabrics, and make the half-square triangles (12 of black and white patches, 8 of blue and black, and 4 of white and blue). To make the half-square triangles, lay the pair of A patches together with their right sides facing, then stitch them with a ¼ inch seam allowance, and press the seams open.

Step 2
Next, make 4 of the flying geese units, take patch D, then stitch one patch A on each side with ¼ inch seam allowance, and press the seams open. Now, for the center unit, take the remaining A patches, then stitch them on each side of the patch E one at a time with ¼ inch seam allowance, and press the seams as you go.
Step 3
Once done piecing each unit, arrange them together making sure to refer to the diagram, then stitch and press them nicely. Assemble the block units, then stitch them one at a time, and press the seams as you go.
