How to Make a Balance Quilt Block

Materials:
- Dark print fabric
- Light solid fabric
- Accent print fabric
- Marking pen, pencil, or chalk
- Ruler
- Scissors or rotary cutter and cutting mat
- Needle and thread
- Iron, for pressing
- Sewing machine

Cut the fabric to size, then lay the accent square at the center, and place the shorter light fabric strips on each side. Stitch them together and press the seams open, then place the longer light fabric strips at the top and bottom, and stitch them in place pressing the seams as you go. Sew the dark print fabric strip to the side of the block and set it aside, then lay the small squares into a 4-patch block, and stitch them to each other. Give the seams a good press, then sew the 4-patch block to the shorter side of the remaining dark print fabric strip, and sew the pieced strip to the bottom of the block you made earlier. Press the seams open and you’re done!
