This lovely sewing project idea by Shabby Fabrics on YouTube is so easy to make that even beginners can do it perfectly on the first try. If you have lots of fabric scraps piled up from previous projects and don’t know what to do with them, then this might be the best way to use them, and if you want, you can also sell them or give them as a gift.

Directions:

Step 1

Cut the fabric into 8½-inch strips, then lay one strip at the very end of fusible interfacing, lay another strip on top with their right sides facing together, and press it open making sure to leave about ½-inch seam allowance folded. Repeat this step until you’ve reached the end of the fusible interfacing and it is fully covered, then straighten the edges and turn it into a nice and square shape, and flip it over so the fusible interfacing side is up. Fold it in half, then line the center, open, fold the other way, and line the center. Mark the miter lines, then fold it in half with its right side facing, then clip the edges in place, sew over the diagonal lines, and straight down the sides as shown in the video.

Step 2

Remove the clips and gather the edges together at the center, then sew down the edges and along the diagonal lines for the sides that weren’t sewn, and trim off the excess fabric about ½ inch away from the stitching line of the diagonal sides. Turn the piece right side out, then poke the edges nicely, and stuff it with whatever filling you want to use. Tuck the edges of the gap at the center nicely, then pin it in place and sew it close by hand. Sew a button at the center, then flip it over, and sew another button at the center of the other side of the pincushion.
