Easy One-Fabric Runner Quilt Tutorial For Beginners

Materials:
- Variegated fabric
- Backing fabric
- Batting fabric
- Binding fabric
- Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
- Fabric pins
- Needle and thread
- Iron, for pressing
- Sewing machine
Directions:
Step 1
Give your variegated or main fabric a nice press before your start with your project, then cut them in half along the fold to separate the light fabric from the dark fabric, and lay them together with their right sides facing. Trim off and straighten the edges if needed, then cut out 5 strips at 4 inches along the short side, and then cut those strips into squares at 4 inches. Make sure that as you cut the squares, the fabrics are still nicely stacked together, then draw a line down the center of the squares diagonally from corner to corner, and sew down each side of the line with a ¼ inch seam allowance.

Step 2
Once done sewing down each side, cut them through in half and along the lines in the middle of the stitching lines, then press them open and the seams toward the darker fabric, and trim off the bit that is sticking out the center seam. Assemble the half-square triangles as shown in the video until your diamond pattern starts coming together, then sew them together in sections until you’ve pieced all of the half-square triangles together, and give them a nice press. Add the backing, batting, binding, and quilt this however you want, or topstitch along the existing stitches.
