#1 Read the pattern thoroughly

It’s important to read the pattern thoroughly before starting so you’ll avoid time-consuming mistakes. You want to be able to know what you’re doing and follow those instructions so you can spend the time sewing and not spend time unpicking seams.

#2 Use the cutting mat

Use the cutting mat to measure as this will save you a lot of time.

#3 Chain piece

Chain piecing will also save you a lot of time. Place all of your quilt block units next to you so that you’ve got enough in each section to do all of the blocks that you need. Start at your top row and put your corner block to the middle block on the top row and stitch that down. Repeat with the next two until you made it through the entire stack.

#4 Press

Wait to press until your entire row is assembled. This will work in any standard nine-patch and four-patch things where the seams do not need to be pressed before you sew something over.

#5 Pin

Pin all your rows at once. Get everything nice and laid out, do all your double pinning to make sure that all your triangles end up where they’re supposed to be, then chain piece through the sewing machine.
