In my house, air freshener is a necessity. I cook so much, and as delicious as it is, I don’t want my house to smell like garlic 24/7. One of my favorite air fresheners also acts as a piece of decor: a reed diffuser!

Diffusers are gorgeous and make any room smell amazing, but they’re kinda pricey. I’ve seen some cost upwards of $60, and that’s a little steep, no matter how amazing they are. Luckily, making your own is pretty inexpensive, and Brooke with WhatsUpMoms has a simple tutorial to do just that!

Start by finding a bottle with a narrow opening. You can usually find ones just like the one Brooke uses at the thrift store. Then, find a carrier oil, or a relatively cheap oil with little or no scent. She uses 3/4 cup of safflower oil, but other carrier oils include sweet almond oil, avocado oil, and canola oil, among others.

She adds a few tablespoons of some scented oils to use as the air fresheners themselves. Any essential oil or scented oil will work for this. She uses a combo of lavender, sweet orange, jasmine, and freesia.

Once she pours that oil combo into her bottle, she adds some wood reeds to it. The more porous the reeds, the better, as they’ll soak up more of the oil and diffuse more of the scent.

Reed diffusers make a great addition to any room. Everyone wants their house to smell good, so be sure to share this with your friends so they can make some, too!
