How to Make a Square Knot Quilt

Step 1:

Take one background strip, leaving it folded, then put a folded print strip on top. Trim the selvage edge. Cut 2 1/2″ twice, then cut 4 1/2″ rectangles twice. Keep them in piles.

Step 2:

Take your 4 1/2″ rectangles and 2 1/2″ squares that are contrasting and 2 1/2″ white squares. Fold the squares into half diagonally to make a crease. Sew a contrasting square onto the white rectangle and sew a white square onto the print rectangle directly on the creases. Make sure they are going the same direction. Once done, trim the excess 1/4″ away from the seams.

Step 3:

Arrange in pairs just like in the photo below. Sew them together.

Step 4:

Assemble the block just like a four-patch. Sew them together and press it flat. Repeat with the other pairs.

You need 7 rows with 7 blocks each. Sew them in rows first. Once done, sew the rows together.
