To make this quilt, you only need 2 fabrics, one light and one dark. The first thing you need to do is to make half-square triangles. There are tons of methods on how to do it. Just choose the one that works for you the most. Once you have the half-square triangles, you need to form them in a pinwheel. If you already made pinwheel blocks before, this will be much easier to make. The pinwheel is then cut four times to get 9 squares. The last thing you need to do is rotate the squares around the center, and you have the pin dash block.

How to Make a Baby Blanket Pin Dash

Step 1:

Cut fabric A into 5 strips of 5″ x WOF, then sub-cut to 8 pieces of 5″x 5″ squares for a total of 40. Do the same for fabric B.

Step 2:

Place one fabric A square and one fabric B square right sides together. Mark a diagonal line on the darker fabric from corner to corner and sew 1/4″ on both sides of the line. Next, cut directly on the line and press them open. Repeat with all the other squares to get 40 half-square triangles.

Step 3:

Get 4 HSTs. Arrange them in a pinwheel pattern and sew to make a block. It will be 8 3/4″. Trim it down to 8 1/4″ x 8 1/4″.

Step 4:

Make four cuts – 2 vertical and 2 horizontal. Start on the left side of your block. Cut it at 2 3/4″, then make another cut at 2 3/4″. Repeat from the bottom up at 2 3/4″ twice. You will get 2 3/4″ squares. Do not move them.

Step 5:

Turn the 8 outside squares to make the dash. Sew them in rows. Once done, sew the rows together to make the pin dash block. It should measure 7 3/8″.
