The first time I saw this pattern, I thought it was too hard to make, so I didn’t attempt to try. However, I saw it again a couple of months ago and decided to give it a go. Turns out, it was not as complicated as it looks! Believe me, it is an easy quilt project. This is your sign to do the block that you’ve been wanting to make.

Easy Snail Trail Quilt Block Materials

  • 2 pieces of 2″ x 2″ pink squares
  • 2 pieces of 2″ x 2″ contrasting fabric squares
  • 2 squares in 2 contrasting fabrics:
    • 5 1/4″ x 5 1/4″
    • 3 3/4″ x 3 3/4″
    • 3″x 3″

 

How to Make a Snail Trail Quilt Block

Step 1:

Arrange the 2″ x 2″ squares in pairs, then sew them together like a four-patch with the colors alternating. Be sure to nest the seams. Once done, unpick the seam top and bottom. Press the seams open.

Step 2:

Cut the 3″ squares in half diagonally to make triangles. Place the triangles on the sides to form a square. Sew them together. Make sure they are centered. Press it flat. Trim the excess fabrics on the sides of the block.

Step 3:

Cut the 3 3/4″ squares in half diagonally to make triangles. Place the triangles just like in the photo below. Sew them together to form a bigger square. Make sure each triangle is centered. Press it flat. Trim excess fabrics on the sides of the block.

Step 4:

Cut the 5 1/4″ squares in half diagonally to make triangles. Do the same process. Place them on the sides to make the block. See the photo below for reference. Sew them together. Press it flat and cut the excess fabrics.

The finished block size is 8 1/4″.
