In this step by step instructions, Moonkin Stitchery will teach you how to make this gorgeous-patterned quilt easily. This is the perfect project for beginners but seasoned quilters will also find this quilt fun to make!
Cut four 5″ squares per layer cake to create four charm packs. Once you have all of them cut, trim twenty 5″ squares down to 4 1/2″ squares. With the remaining twenty 5″ squares, select ten of them and on the wrong side of the fabric, draw a 45-degree line from corner to corner. Next, take another 5″ square and lay them on top of each other, right sides together, then sew a 1/4″ seam allowance on both sides of that line. You’ll end up with two 4 1/2″ half-square triangles.
With those half-square triangles, create a flying geese block and also select two 4 1/2″ squares in mixed prints and place them on the bottom to create the block. Sew the blocks together to form rows, then the rows together to complete the 8 1/2″ quilt block. Repeat these steps until you have a total of ten quilt blocks. Once done, lay the first row of the quilt top with the flying geese pointed to the left. For the second row, rotate the blocks 180 degrees to have the flying geese pointed to the right. Lay the quilt top in two rows with five blocks within each row. After this, sew the blocks together to make the rows, then sew the rows together to create the quilt top.
