It is important to be prepared for any unforeseen circumstances, especially during this winter. Recently, my friend experienced the worst snowstorm ever that resulted in a power outage for several hours. Unfortunately, they were not prepared for it and did not have essential items like candles. After hearing about their experience, I realize the importance of being ready for such emergencies. I saw jennifer’s tips video on how to make an emergency candle that never goes out and decided to give it a try to see if this emergency candle hack really works.

I did make one at home, and yes, it definitely works. I never knew it was this easy. You can use this during a power outage, as a source of light and heat. You can also use this trick when camping. The truth about this hack is that it does go out, but all you need to do is fill it again and it works like new. Make sure you save this survival tip! What You Need to Make Emergency Candle

  • old glass jar with lid
  • nail
  • yarn
  • hammer or any hard object
  • metal bottle cap
  • scissors
  • kitchen oil

How to Make Emergency Candle At Home

Step 1:

Carefully make a hole in the middle of the lid with the nail. Make sure that the yarn can fit into the hole.

Step 2:

Make a hole in the center of the bottle cap as well.

Step 3:

Cut a thread a bit longer than the size of the jar.

Step 4:

Pass the yarn through the holes of the lid and metal cap.

Step 5:

Once the yarn is threaded, fill 1/4 of the jar with oil. Get the threaded yarn with the caps and hold onto the end while you place it on the jar. Make a knot on the end of the jar.

Step 6:

Hold the knot and gently rotate it until the thread is moistened. It is important that it is completely moistened otherwise the candle will not last long.

Step 7:

Light with a lighter. After the oil is used up you just have to fill it up again and it will work like new.
