Fabric Requirements:

  • 1 jelly roll
  • 2/3 yard binding
  • 5 yards backing

Coordinating Solids:

  • 3 at 1/2 yard
  • 1 at 1 1/4 yards (includes border)

Directions:

Step 1

From each coordinating solid fabric, cut three 2 1/2″ strips WOF (width of fabric) and one 4 1/2″ strip WOF. For the border, cut eight 3 1/2″ strips WOF. Set them aside by their color. Next, sew them together in three combinations. For the first combination: 4 1/2″ solid strip + three jelly roll strips (total of four sets). Second combination: 2 1/2″ solid strip + four jelly roll strips (total of four sets). Third combination: 2 1/2″ solid strips + three jelly roll strips (total of eight sets).

Step 2

Pair one 4 1/2″ wide strip with three jelly roll strips, then sew them together. For the next set, take one of the solid strips from each of the colors, then pair it with four jelly roll strips. Do this once with each of the colors, then sew them together. For the last set, take two solid strips and pair them with three jelly roll strips. After this, cut all the sets into 10 1/2″ squares (you should get four pieces of 10 1/2″ squares on each strip set). Now, lay the pieces to make the quilt top. You’ll have six blocks on each row in a total of eight rows. Mix up the blocks to make it look scrappy.
