If you’re on this page, then I’m sure you’re looking for a quick baby quilt pattern you can make for a last-minute gift. Don’t worry; I got you! This quilt project from Material Girl Quilts on Youtube is a beginner-friendly 5” charm square quilt pattern you can make. It’s super simple and will not take a lot of time to finish. You can also make yourself a small lap quilt out of this tutorial. Watch the video below to learn how.
For each of the print squares, cut them into 4 & 1/2″ x 5″ rectangles. When cutting, make sure that you line up your ruler with the outside of the pinked edges of the pre-cut fabric. Then, turn your ruler and cut it into two 2 & 1/2″ x 4 & 1/2″ rectangles. Do this for each of your print squares. For your solid charms, cut them into 4 & 1/2″ squares. Now, to make the block, take one of the 2 & 1/2″ x 4 & 1/2″ rectangles and of the 2 & 1/2″ squares. Sew them right sides together along the short edge. That will give you your completed block. After this, press them toward the dark fabric. (You should end up with a total of 161 blocks.)

Next, lay these out and sew them together. Each row will have seven blocks for a total of 23 rows. When you’re laying these out, in each row, the blocks will go in the opposite direction. If the rows go in opposite directions, that’s what will give you the inner weave pattern. Now, after you lay all of your blocks out into 23 rows of seven blocks, sew your rows, right sides together. When you attach the square and sew each block together, you’ll still press toward the dark so that your seams will nest together nicely. Again, it’s a total of 23 rows of seven blocks.
