Baseboards are not the easiest thing to paint, and it is all too easy to make a small mistake that is difficult to fix and can make the entire area look very unsightly. When I found this awesome video tutorial by The Funny Carpenter, on YouTube, that described how to easily do a professional-looking paint and repair job on baseboards, I had to try these wonderful tips. I was so happy to have all of the bases covered when I painted the baseboards in my dining room.

Materials To Paint Baseboards Professionally:

  • A good paint brush (this is so important, a cheap paintbrush is going to make your paint go on unevenly, and it will make your work look sloppy, no matter how careful you are)
  • Frog Tape (better than blue painter’s tape, will give you a guaranteed clean line)
  • Dry Dex by DAP (will fill in scratches and gashes, before you start painting)
  • Elmer’s Wood Filler (for bigger gashes)
  • Fine grit sandpaper (or a sanding block, to smooth out the entire area before you paint)
  • Flotrol (to add to the paint, to get an even application)
