I love barbecue of all kinds, and this design is perfect for grilling with the top up or smoking meat, like a big brisket, with the top down. This pit is what I call the Texas special because I have seen so many of them in backyards since I was a child. The method Rust Is Gold uses it really simple and straight forward but it does require some metal-working skills.

Materials For The BarbecuePit:

  • 1 55 gallon metal barrel
  • hinges (for the lid)
  • A circular saw
  • A blow torch
  • A metal sander
  • Metal legs
  • 4 casters (to make your barbecue pit mobile)

The first step is to remove the paint from the barrel and sand it down. Then you will slice the barrel in half and attach hinges to one side and a handle to the other side.
