Ingredients Needed For This Recipe:

  • Flour
  • Baking Powder
  • Salt
  • Butter
  • Butter Flavored Shortening
  • Sugar
  • Rum Extract
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Buttermilk

Directions:

Step One

Mix up the flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Whisk them together.

Step Two

Use a hand mixer for this step. In a large bowl, combine your butter, shortening, sugar and eggs. Start by beating the butter and shortening, then slowly add in the sugar and eggs alternating between the two. The batter should end up light and airy.

Step Three

Add in some run extract, then some vanilla extract into the batter.

Step Four

Combine the dry ingredients from step one into your wet batter from step three. Add the dry ingredients slowly to make sure the mixture is even and lump-free. Alternate the dry ingredient with your buttermilk as well. your batter should be whipped and fluffy at the end.

Step Five

Grease and flour your pan well before adding in your batter. Once your poured all your batter into the pan, shake and tap the bubbles out of the batter by moving the pan around. Place your cake into the oven to bake at 325 degrees for about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Step Six

Make the butter rum sauce that will be poured over your cake. In a pan, melt some butter, then add in some granulated sugar and some water or rum. Cook the mixture on the skillet till it begins to get foamy.

Step Seven

Using a skewer, poke holes into your cake and then pour the sauce over it. After letting the sauce soak in for a bit, flip the cake over onto a plate and enjoy! Brush any extra glaze onto the top of the cake.
