Materials:

  • putty knife or butter knife if you don’t have one

Instructions:

Step 1:

Check your screen door. Is it struggling to remove and gets stuck in the middle? That’s often the sign that the rollers on the bottom, one or both of those have slid off the track that they roll on. It can be frustrating to force it daily, and over time it can lead to more damage.

Step 2:

Figure out which roller on your screen door is the one that’s off the track. Usually, you can tell as you move the screen. Check which side is closer to the edge than it should be. It also makes a grinding and scraping sound when you move it.

Step 3:

Insert the putty knife on the bottom edge and push the screen door up. Once it’s lifted, you can see the grooved wheel. It needs to sit directly over the metal rack in order to roll smoothly.

Step 4:

If your door moves in one direction, it won’t move on one side if you apply pressure. When that happens, try the other side of the wheel. It should lift up very easily. As you do that, apply a little bit of horizontal pressure to push the screen door back on the tracks.

Note: There are also some screws and adjustment levels on the bottom part of the screen that will adjust where the wheel sets.
