Dana suggests that the best fabrics to make these bags with are heavier cottons like canvas, twill, duck cloth, upholstery fabrics because it adds some structure to your bag and it keeps it from getting holes in your bag over time. You can make these bags any size you want, but she gives us some dimensions for a basic book bag or a purse.

She makes two totes and shows us two different ways to make them, so you can make one of them or both of them. Since they are so easy you could make both of them in one afternoon!

For the handles, you can use repurposed leather, rope, the same fabric you’re making the bag out of or you can use one of Dana’s favorites, a heavier cotton canvas twill tape, and it comes in a variety of colors. You can purchase this at the fabric store.
