If you made a dresden quilt, you probably have a lot of leftover pieces. This easy sprocket pillow tutorial by Missouri Star is a great way to use up all those fabric scraps! It’s easy to make and can be finished in just a few hours. I absolutely love how it turned out, as it’s colorful and playful. I had fun making one so I decided to make several more to give as gifts to my family.

For one pillow, you will need 20 pieces of the dresden blades. You will also need a backing fabric and a small piece of fabric for the center circle. It makes a big size of pillow that you can place on your sofa, couch, chair, or window seat. And it is the perfect decoration to add color to a space. I am sure you’ll have fun making this simple project at home!

  • dresden ruler
  • layer cakes or 10″ precut squares
  • saucer/cup/lid
  • heat n’ bond
  • backing fabric
  • fluff
  • button

How to Make an Easy Sprocket Pillow

Step 1:

Using your dresden ruler, cut triangles from your layer cakes. You need 20 pieces for this project.

Step 2:

Arrange the triangles into a circle with the wide ends all towards the outside. Chain piece two triangles 10 times to get 10 sets. Next, sew the sets together to make a circle with 20 triangles. Press it flat.

Step 3:

Trace your saucer, cup, or lid onto heat n’ bond and iron it into a fabric. Cut it right on the line. Place the sewn circle on a piece of paper. Peel the back off the small circle and place it over the middle. Iron it down. Sew around it with a decorative stitch.

Step 4:

Get your backing fabric and trace the finished front piece. Cut it out. Place them right sides together and sew all the way around, leaving a 6″ opening.

Step 5:

Pull the inside fabric through the opening. Stuff it with fluff, then sew the opening.

Step 6:

Sew a button in the middle of your pillow.
