Directions:

Step 1

Cut the fabric in size, then draw a line on the back side of the background square diagonally from corner to corner, lay the background squares on top of the dark print squares with their right sides facing and edges matching, and sew them together with ¼ inch seam allowance on each side of the marked line. Cut the piece in half along the line, then press the half-square triangles open, cut off the nubs, and repeat the same steps with the other pair.

Step 2

Next, pair the contrasting squares together into twos, then lay two together nicely with their right sides facing and edges matching, and sew them together with a ¼ inch seam allowance. Press the strip unit open, then repeat the same process with the rest of the pairs, lay a background rectangle on top of the unit with their right sides facing and edges matching, and stitch them together along the long side.

Step 3

Press them open, then lay another background rectangle on the side as shown in the video, match the edges nicely, stitch them together, and press open. Proceed to do the same to the rest of the strip units, then sew the half-square triangle pieces to the dark print rectangles making sure to place the dark print fabrics beside each other, and press the seams open.

Step 4

Sew this strip unit to the other pieced unit to complete the block units, then press them nicely, and continue to do the same with the remaining pieces. Now, assemble the block units together rotating each until the background fabric at the center forms a diamond as shown in the diagram, then sew the top rows together, press the seams open, and repeat with the bottom rows. Sew the rows to each other, then press the seams open, and you’re done!
