Easy Quilted Valentine’s Day Heart Coasters Tutorial

This sewing project idea by Debs Days on YouTube is a great way to use your fabric scraps. These quilted coasters are super easy to sew and the finished product looks so lovely. You can also give this as a gift or sell it if you want. Whichever you choose, one thing is for sure, you won’t regret learning how to sew these quilted coasters.

Materials:

• Backing fabric
• Batting fabric
• 1-2 inches wide fabric strips
• Fabric, for the heart applique
• Marking pen or pencil
• Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
• Iron, for pressing
• Sewing machine

Directions:

Step 1

Print out the template and cut the batting fabric according to the required measurement or cut a square batting to the desired size, then lay it on your work surface, and place a fabric strip at the center diagonally from corner to corner with its right side facing up. Grab another strip, then lay it on top of the first strip with its right side facing down, and make sure that their edges are matching. Sew them together along one side, then press the fabric open, and continue to add more strips until one side is covered. Once done with the lower side of the block, turn it over, then repeat the same process of adding strips until fully covered as well, and press the block nicely.

Step 2

Create a total of four blocks, then cut the backing fabric the same size as your block, and lay them on top of each block with their right sides facing each other. Stitch around the block leaving a small gap, then turn the piece right side out through the opening, and tuck the seams of the opening nicely. Topstitch around the block, then cut the heart applique, and place it at the center of the block before stitching around the edges of the heart (stitch with a zigzag motion or however you want). Repeat the same steps with the rest of the blocks.
