If you are into DIY then you must have encountered and tried a lot of interesting tutorials, but have you tried making your shower gels? It may sound difficult, but it isn’t and it is also fun! Making your shower gels also lets you customize and pick the scents you prefer, plus they’re long-lasting. Making them are also budget-friendly which might make you think twice about using store-bought shower gels. I found this incredible tutorial by Creative Bath Lab on YouTube and have been using it ever since. Go ahead and try making them, then tell us how you did!

Ingredients:

Gel Base

  • Distilled water
  • Guar gum
  • Liquid Surfactant
  • Preservative (optional)

Rich and Moisturizing Shower Gel

  • 4½ tablespoons (65 grams) Gel base
  • 1½ tablespoon (20 grams) Melted butter (kokum)
  • 2 teaspoons (10ml) Carrier oil (vitamin E)
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) Fragrance oil (vanilla lace)
  • 2½ tablespoons (40ml) Liquid surfactant

Mint Fresh

  • 4½ tablespoons (65 grams) Gel base
  • 1½ tablespoon (20 grams) Carrier oil (hempseed)
  • ¼ teaspoon (3ml) Mint oil
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) Fragrance oil (peppermint, teakwood, fierce, & birch)
  • 2½ tablespoons (40ml) Liquid surfactant
  • 1 teaspoon Jojoba seeds
  • 1 drop Aqua blue food coloring

Clear Sparkling Gel

  • 2.6 ounces (75ml) Distilled water
  • ¼ teaspoon (1 gram) Guar gum
  • A little bit of fragrance oil (optional)

Directions:

Gel Base

To make the gel base, simply pour 5 ounces (150ml) of distilled water into a beaker or any similar cup, then add 1 teaspoon (3 grams) of guar gum, emulsify the ingredients, then add about a quarter teaspoon (1.5ml) of preservative (this step is optional, it is highly recommended to keep your shower gel’s shelf life longer and avoid growing mold). Lastly, slowly stir in about 2½ ounces of liquid surfactant (do not emulsify or blend).

Rich and Moisturizing Shower Gel

Combine the gel base, melted butter, carrier oil, and fragrance oil, then emulsify together. Slowly stir in the liquid surfactant.

Mint Fresh

Combine gel base, carrier oil (hempseed), mint oil, fragrance oil, then emulsify the ingredients. Slowly stir in liquid surfactant, jojoba seeds, and food coloring. Adding a bit of glycerin turns the gel base an opaque white.

Clear Sparkling Gel

Combine distilled water, guar gum, and a little bit of fragrance oil, then emulsify. Adding any more ingredients will turn the gel cloudy.
