Materials:

  • A Styrofoam ball (8 cm in diameter)
  • a compass and a pencil
  • Stationery knife
  • Measuring tape
  • Velvet stretch (10 cm of 1.5 m wide fabric makes four balls)
  • Golden cord (1 mm in diameter)-2.5 m
  • Hats for beads, beads, or pendants
  • Tailor’s pins (2–2.5 cm in length)

Directions:

Using a pencil, mark the Styrofoam ball in half, using the line found in every ball as a guide. Next, you will also mark the top and bottom by measuring the circumference of the ball, starting at the first point and dividing it into two. This will guide you where to mark the second point. You could use the pins to mark it afterward.

Measure the center and create several points around the ball. Connect each point by drawing a line. Measure the halves into four, then mark them. After creating the guides, you now use a compass from the top point and draw circles to your liking.

Measure the width of the inner part of the sector. Perpendicular to that, draw a line of the same length through the center. Round off one edge and cut the curves you drew. Use this as a guide to help mark your ornament. Using a clerical knife, cut the drawing to a depth of about 7 mm.

With the guides in place, we know we should make our ball out of elastic velvet. We fix the velvet, cut it off, and hide the edges inward. To add more appeal, use the golden cord to design your ornament and use the lines as a guide. For the finishing touch, add a beautiful bead and make the mount.

Don’t forget to explore and experiment with different designs you like. Have a wonderful holiday season!
