In this step by step tutorial, Missouri Star guided us on how to make this beginner-friendly table runner that will elevate any table in your home. You can also use your stash of favorite charm packs to make this! Trust me, this project will surely become one of your favorite quilt projects. Watch the video tutorial below to learn how to make this quilt.

Materials:

  • 1 pack of 5″ squares (charm pack)
  • 1/25 yard fabric by the yard
  • 0.5 yard binding fabric
  • 1.75 backing/wide fabrics

Directions:

Step 1

Pick two 5″ squares that are contrasting, then line them right sides together. Sew a 1/4″ seam on two opposite sides. Once done, cut them in half, press open, then trim down to 4 1/2″ squares. Next, take 4 1/2″ background squares, draw a line from corner to corner, then match them up with the strip sets. Sew a 1/4″ seam on both sides of the drawn line, then cut on that line after sewing. Press them open, then square them to 4″.

Step 2

Once you’re done trimming off the squares, assemble them into a pinwheel block, then sew them together into a four-patch. Press nicely and evenly afterwards. Repeat these steps to make enough pinwheel blocks for the table runner. Once you have all the blocks needed, it’s time to assemble the table runner. Start and end each row of pinwheel with a 2 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ sashing strip, putting them in between as well. There are two rows of seven pinwheel blocks, with a 2 1/2″ cornerstone on both ends of each sashing strip.
