Materials:

  • bulky yarn
  • 5mm crochet hook
  • 2 – 6mm plastic safety eyes
  • stuffing
  • scissors

Directions:

Step 1

Start with two chains, then insert eight single crochet in the second chain from the hook. Now you have your first round made. Moving on to round two, increase around by inserting two single crochet in each stitch, making up sixteen stitches. Now for rounds three and four, do a single crochet all around for two rounds, inserting one single crochet into every stitch. Round five is to decrease around by doing a single crochet on two slip stitches together. For round six, flip the crochet first, then start working with the tentacles. Work in the front loop only for this entire round. Start with two chains, then slip stitch in the second chain from the hook. After this, slip stitch into the front loop of the same stitch. Repeat these steps eight times, creating eight tentacles in total.

Step 2

Now, add the eyes between round three and round four, two slip stitches apart. Once done, stuff the inside. Finally, round seven is for closing the bottom. Start by working in the untouched back loops you created in round six, decreasing all around four times. After this, secure and weave in the ends. Your DIY octopus crochet is now finished!
