This can provide a great alternative to a traditional timeout, and it encourages the child to refocus and calm down. Although my kids and I just like to shake it up and sit and watch the glitter swirl around and around.

Blogger Here We Are Together explains that “A Mind Jar is a meditation tool to use whenever a child feels stressed, overwhelmed or upset. Imagine the glitter as your thoughts. When you shake the jar, imagine your head full of whirling thoughts, then watch them slowly settle while you calm down”.

The idea is that when a child is anxious they flip the jar upside down and back like a snow glob. As the glitter settles, the child watches it and by the time the glitter settles at the bottom the child has begun to calm down.

Creating these at home, school, or in therapy with a child would be a perfect, simple hands-on activity that they could take home as a great tool to help center them.  Whether they tend to be anxious or hyperactive.  Anyone could use this tool to help chill out during the day!

Many adults make this for their meditation practices, so this is for everyone to enjoy!
