A lot of people where asking, “How do you make the fabric rose?” In this article, I’ll finally show you how to make it step by step. The process is quite different from the first flower I made, but don’t worry, it is still super easy to follow!

Making flowers from old jeans is probably one of the best ways to upcycle denim. They last a long time and can be a sentimental keepsake. Maybe it’s a pair of jeans or a denim jacket you or a loved one wore in the past—and now, you can turn it into home decor, accessory, or embellishment that reminds you of those special memories every time you see it.

How to Stop Fabric From Fraying
There are different ways to stop denim from fraying. Here are some of the most common methods:
- Applying Fray Check
- Sewing a zigzag stitch
- Using fabric glue, Mod Podge, or PVA glue
- Using pinking shears
For this project, I used PVA glue since I already had it on hand. It not only stops the fabric from fraying, but it also adds structure to the denim, helping it hold its shape. Simply dilute the glue with water and brush it on fabric. Allow it to dry completely before using.

How to Make Denim Roses from Jeans

Make the petals
Trace the patterns onto denim. You will need six (6) pieces of each size.
Make the stem
Cut strips from your chambray fabric. Take three floral wires and wrap them with fabric strips. Use fabric glue or hot glue to keep them from unraveling.
Add the first stack of petals
Take the smallest petals. Glue two petals together as shown in the photo below, then add the next layers in between the pieces from the previous layer.
Add the second stack of petals
Take the medium-sized petals and repeat what you did in step 3.
Add the last stack of petals
Make the leaves
Cut eight small triangles and two leaf shaped piece from your chambray fabric. Glue them in pairs.
Glue the triangles
Glue the small triangles onto the stem just below the flower.
Glue the leaf
Attach the leaf a few inches below the flower on the stem.
Finishing touches
Curve the leaf and you are done!

What to Do with the Denim Flower
- DIY Flower bouquet. Make tons of denim roses in different sizes and shades to make a flower bouquet. You can also add the denim pom pom flowers for extra variation.
- Embellishment. Use denim flowers without stems as embellishments for pillows, clothing, hats, or bags.
- Home decor. Place them in a vase to make a beautiful, upcycled DIY decor.
- Hair accessories. Glue the flower onto hair clips or headbands.
- Shoe accessories. Want to upgrade your shoes or sandals? Add a denim flower for a lovely accent.
- Wreath. Attach denim roses to a wreath to make a stunning wall decor.
- Curtain tiebacks, garland, or keychain. Simply glue a string to the denim flower for a fun and functional decorative piece.
- Gift wrapping. Use the fabric rose for a unique and eco-friendly gift topper.
