30. Sticky Chicken

Five pantry ingredients make this glaze: honey, ketchup, soy sauce, hot sauce and Worcestershire. Bone-in, skin-on thighs and legs marinate for at least four hours, get browned in a cast iron skillet, then roast in the oven until the sauce turns dark and sticky. Save the marinade to baste with as it cooks. Kids love it, grown-ups fight over the crispy bits, and there’s never any left.

31. Flaky Southern Biscuits

Flaky gluten free southern biscuits with tall layers and a spoonful of strawberry jam

Good news for anyone eating gluten free: these biscuits still have tall, flaky layers. A gluten free all purpose flour gets cut together with cold butter, powdered buttermilk, baking powder and soda, then buttermilk and sour cream bring the dough together. They bake at 375 degrees for about 12 minutes. Freeze the butter cubes or grate frozen butter for the flakiest results. Serve them warm with jam, just like the photo.

32. Southern Pound Cake

A proper southern pound cake is dense, buttery and perfect with coffee. This one creams butter and shortening with sugar, adds eggs one at a time, and alternates flour and milk before a hint of vanilla and orange extract. It bakes at 325 degrees for about an hour and ten minutes in a bundt pan. Grease and flour every groove. The powdered sugar glaze, made with butter and half and half, is optional but highly recommended.

Since I lover experiments, I’ve alwaysnloved to create, paint, as well as cook and style food. I feel in love with DIY as soon as I discovered it and could not have been more excited when I learned I could share projects with people around the world. Taking photos is a passion of mine, as is design and painting with oils. I love holidays and celebrations, crafting cute little gifts and serving up at least one new recipe I am excited about.
